Why do we give gifts?
Have you ever stopped and wondered why you take part in the tradition of gift giving? Whether it’s gifts for the holidays, special events, birthdays, anniversaries, or for no reason at all, gift giving has most likely been a part of your life since as early as you can remember.
And really, who doesn’t love a great gift!? We all have that one gift that brings back a memory that we cherish…like the day you got a pony. That gift that really says, wow they know me!
Maybe you were lucky enough to get a pony, or another gift that brings to mind a special memory. When you think of that gift, is it a specific thing, an experience that you remember, or maybe even both?
Gift Giving is A Love Language
Gift Giving is also a love language. I didn’t discover this until recently when I took the online quiz to discover which of the 5 Love Languages was prominent for me.

Gift giving as a love language means you feel the best and express your love through giving and receiving gifts. The value of the gift revolves around the thoughtfulness of the gift, not the size or how much it cost.
Either you feel special because you recognize the time and effort someone put into your gift or you want to put that time and effort into a gift for someone to show them how much you love and appreciate them.
Does this sound familiar to you? Maybe it’s your love language. Or maybe not. But gift giving definitely says one thing for sure, that someone was thinking about you. A way of communicating and showing others how you feel about them.
Gift Giving is an Art…
Gift giving is an art because of the creativity that goes into your gift selection.
A great gift is something they will always remember and think of as coming from you. It creates a memory that won’t be forgotten.
Gifts are a thoughtful way to let someone know you are thinking about them and know what their interests are, which ultimately is an expression of your feelings towards the recipient and your relationship.
The art is how they are chosen. What do you want them to feel or experience when they receive the gift? Maybe it encourages them to do something they’ve always wanted to do, but have never taken the chance or time to do.
Gift Giving is an Experience…
What is that one thing someone always talks about doing and hasn’t done yet? Is it guitar lessons? Or is it simply a statement about wanting to be more creative?

Give the gift of an experience. Give the gift of learning. Better yet, combine the two and give them the chance to participate in a fun and engaging experience while learning.

Take Gift Giving A Step Further…
Once you decide on the experience you want to gift someone, take that gift a step further and add a special something that ties to it.
For example, when you gift someone the experience of an Art class with Austin Arts Academy, add a personalized painting apron that they can use during their class or lesson. We provide them during class, but think of how special they’ll feel owning their own.
When you give the gift of Music through guitar lessons at Austin Arts Academy, make them a playlist with their favorite songs you know they’d like to learn. Imagine how proud they’ll be when they can play those songs for you.
And when Dance classes at Austin Arts Academy are the experience you gift, pick out a new outfit to give them so they feel prepared for that first day of class.
All items they can look back on when they are successful artists, musicians or dancers and remember the gift of an experience that you so creatively dedicated your time to picking out just for them. A memory they will never forget!
