Chakra Colors linked to Teachers: Music, Art & Dance Classes at Austin Arts Academy in Austin, Texas
Hang with me here…
You’ve had the opportunity to meet a few of our teachers in the Teacher Feature section of our blog. I discovered something interesting while I was chatting with our teachers during their “Get to Know You” interviews.
I began to notice common answers when it came to their favorite colors, which got me thinking about the colors of the chakras and how it all connected to characteristics of our lessons.
The common colors teachers chose were some variation of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, or Purple. Yep, the colors of the rainbow. R.O.Y.G.B.I.V., if you consider indigo and violet as basically purple.
The colors of the rainbow also correlate to the colors of the chakras.
On a very basic level, the chakras are 7 energy centers that are located along the center of your body, from the base of your spine to the top of your head. Each chakra center correlates to a color, element, purpose, and mantra.
Are you still with me?
The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine and represented by the color red and the element of earth. It’s purpose is to connect you to your basic needs, well-being, survival skills, and a feeling of being centered or grounded.
I am safe.
The Sacral Chakra is located between the base of your spine and your belly button and represented by the color orange and the element of water. It’s purpose is to connect you to your creativity, expression of emotions, feelings and sensations.
I am creative.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located a few inches above your belly button and represented by the color yellow and the element of fire. It’s purpose is to connect you to your personal power, self-confidence, and decision making skills.
I am confident.
The Heart Charkra is located at the center of your chest, at heart level and represented by the color green and the element of air. It’s purpose is to connect you to love of self and others, compassion, connection, and harmony.
I am connected.
The Throat Chakra is located on your neck and represented by the color blue and the element of space. It’s purpose is to connect you to your authentic self-expression and ability to speak and communicate confidently and truthfully.
I am expressive.
The Third Eye Chakra is located on the forehead between the eyebrows and represented by the color indigo and the element of the mind. It’s purpose is to connect you to intuition, wisdom, insight, innovation, imagination, and perception.
I am innovative.
The Crown Chakra is located between at the top of your head and represented by the color violet and the element of consciousness. It’s purpose is to connect you to awareness, wisdom, knowledge, and enlightenment.
I am wise.
Can you see how this relates back to the teachers and their favorite colors?
As teachers, they are naturally drawn to colors that represent specific elements that are essential in teaching the next generation of Music, Art and Dance students in a fun and engaging way.
Our students are able to freely explore themselves and the world around them because they feel safe, creative, confident, connected, expressive, innovative and wise.
These qualities associated with the chakras and corresponding colors are characteristics that create the complete lesson experience and well-rounded learners at Austin Arts Academy .
And from my perspective, that’s learning way more in a lesson than just technique and method.
